Menemukan akunmu 3 years ago is one of the best thing that ever happened to me. I was so galau, broken, berdosa, jenuh dengan segala ceramah yg ngga nolong sama sekali. Beda sama semua omonganmu yg real, masuk akal, practical. Terima kasih, Adrian.

*Maaf ya, jawabnya pakai bahasa inggris*

People always question why I even bother with

Too old for it, lah.. cemen, lah… for scoring women, lah.. “nulis tuh utk Magdalene Rappler Medium kek” lah..

The way I see it, I simply have something to say. I think I have a few viewpoints to offer that are rarely -if ever- represented by anyone else. And like most people who write, it’s just something I want *out there*.

And what’s the point of writing for people who already agree with your viewpoints already? That’s just plain masturbatory, and it’s nothing but preaching to your own choir.

Sure, writing in ain’t exactly like doing the editorial page of The Economist, but I’d like to think that I contribute something tangible. If anything, just so people can see different ways of viewing issues we encounter in life. And as cemen as these matters may be, I had to deal with them at one point in my life. And if someone gave me better tools at the time, I’d be grateful for it.

So yeah, thank you.

To know I’m of use; to know that I’ve made you see things differently, makes it worth it.

Vipey, could you please share your EDC’s set-up, along with the pic maybe, thank you anyway.

This is my current (2014) on-person Everyday Carry. Of course I have a selection of knives, multitools, and watches I carry on rotation depending on occasion and… yes, what I am wearing for the day.

From left to right, top to bottom:

– Android phone. Hope to get at least another year out of it before I upgrade to a 5.7 incher like the LG V10.

– Hamilton Khaki watch: A birthday gift from @newsplatter, it’s my current daily wear.

– Bracelet: Woven leather with magnetic clasp. The only piece of man-jewellery I allow myself to wear.

– Lighter wrapped in duct tape: I don’t smoke (at least anymore), but it’s always good to have a fire source handy. And having duct tape handy has saved my day (and others) on numerous occasions.

– Wallet: slim wallet from Travelogue. I like it so much, I’ve bought it twice. Aside from my usual cash and cards, it also stores a few strips of Hansaplast and a sachet of Waisan.

– Gerber Dime Multitool: I carry this in rotation with either a Leatherman Squirt of Victorinox Cadet/Pioneer, and always linked by carabiner to my…

– Thrunite Ti3 flashlight: This tiny AAA flashlight packs a blinding punch for its size. Piring’s wife liked it so much, I bought her one.

– Kershaw Skyline folding knife: Flipper deployment, Sandvik 14C28N bead-blasted finish blade, G-10 handles. Carried in rotation with… oh nevermind, the list will be much too long.

hi adrian, can you give us a do and donts or any tips and trick for woman in a ‘pdkt’ stage of relationship where it’s still a bit blurry and confusing? i find that it’s the hardest stage.

Here’s a tip: when you have that uncontrollable urge to do something, don’t do it. Sleep on it, give it more time, and when you do finally do it… tone it down. Way down.

Trust me.. you have no idea how temporarily insane some people become when interested in someone. And just like the clinically insane, they are *always* unaware just how crazy they have become.

Anyone who says otherwise probably never had close friends of the opposite sex.

Or only objectifies them as a.) “bisa neh”, or b.) “ogah ah.”

What is the difference between Indonesians who spent 1-5 years abroad, say, USA, and Indonesians who spend their whole life in Indonesia?

If it’s some privileged Jaksel Orba kid who stayed within the safe familiar PERMIAS/KBRI bubble for the entire time he/she was there… then no difference whatsoever.

Or, if it’s some nervous Jakbar kid who arrives and gets sucked in by the Indo church youth groups… then biasanya jadi close-minded religious zealot.

Those two types are basically two sides of the same coin. And you know ’em when you see ’em.

Om, I still dont get it why people carry lampu senter as a part of their EDC. I mean unless you stay di kampung meledug, jarang banget mati lampu di pulau Jawa. In the emergency case, kan bisa pake henpon. Any reason why you carry lampu senter?

Funny how people will carry an umbrella if there is a 50% chance of rain, but question why you carry a flashlight when there is a 100% chance if night. And even without the night, I often use my flashlight to look for things in my car or bag at night, to check cables behind my sound system, and be the one who locates someone’s missing earring on the ground.

Saying “kan bisa pake henpon” is like saying “kan bisa pake koran” when it rains. Of course you could, but personally I prefer always having the right tools for the job.

Besides, when something like this tiny Thrunite Ti3 can throw a dazzling 120 lumen beam, there really is no excuse to not have one in your pocket, everyday. I mean, that is bright enough to blind someone in a self defense situation.

What do you think about someone who self-proclaimed him/herself that they’re a player or announce themselves to the world; “people told me that I’m a heartbreaker” because as far as I know real player doesn’t talk about their rep, their rep talk for them.

Depends on what he means by “heartbreaker.”

Is it someone who deceives and manipulates women to fall for him for ego sake, resulting in heartbreak?

Or someone who, despite his best intentions of being honest and forthcoming about himself, often becomes the object of manipulative women with hidden agendas to change him… and when she inevitably fails, results in heartbreak?

And those Lesser Men who call themselves “players”? What, it’s cool to “play” people? Because the word itself implies deception and manipulation. Either way, anything involving lying or hidden agendas is never cool. So I think anyone who claims to be a player or heartbreaker (intentional or not), is a douchebag of the highest order.

Vipes, I like this girl who is my ideal dream girl. Pretty, smart (Harvard grad), has a high-paying job and parents who are well-off. She’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a woman but I’m too insecure to go after her. Sometimes I wonder what would she need me for? She has it all. What should I do?

Okay, first of all… you don’t want a girl who *needs* you anyways. You want a girl who *wants* to be with you. Neediness of any kind is a sure sign to start running. Fast.

That being said.. if you feel insecure to go after her, then your chances are pretty low as it is. Women can smell insecurity, and generally find it unattractive. Does it mean your reasons for being insecure are valid? Not at all. But the way you see yourself, IS.

So adjust yourself mentally, and find a way for her to know you are interested. If you are concerned that she is the type who will laugh at you, then she’s not a nice person, and you shouldn’t be attracted to her in the first place. No guarantees it will be reciprocal, but so what.. you might as well try.

And always remember The Vipertongue Protocol: never pursue, persuade, or persist.

Kalau bola sudah disana, then let it be. If it doesn’t come back to you, let it go and say “NEXT!”
